Herm

Herm Island is described as an island paradise and has a wide range of flora and fauna, both native and exotic. This is enabled by Herm's mild climate and because the island rarely experiences frosts, many varieties of plant from around the world can grow in the gardens.

Head gardener, Brett Moore, who trained at Pershore Horticultural College, has a passion for sub-tropical plants and a wealth of knowledge for the many micro-climates and range of plants growing on the island.
Herm has entered RHS Britain in Bloom competition in previous years, and were Gold Award winners of the Small Coastal category in 2002, and 2008. Along with the discretionary Unannounced Judging Award 2008.

Herm is representing the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the 2012 RHS Britain in Bloom competition after winning the Regional Floral Guernsey competition in 2011.

This year we are aiming to transform and improve our environment for both the residents and visitors to the island. By providing a cleaner and greener environment we hope to encourage more wildlife, protect the existing flora and fauna and as a result attract more visitors to the beautiful island of Herm.
The Britain in Bloom competition will allow us to bring the small community together by providing a focus and a common goal. Through the horticultural projects and environmental efforts we will improve our surroundings, encourage the education of residents and visitors, boost the local economy, reduce the small amounts of crime and anti-social behaviour on the island, and provide everyone involved with a huge sense of achievement.
